Streamlight PolyTac Flashlight Black 600 Lumens

The Streamlight PolyTac in black, rated at 600 lumens.

Six hundred lumens tells you the total light coming out and nothing about where it goes, which is the gap between a spec sheet and a beam. Every reflector splits its output between a hotspot, the bright center you aim with, and spill, the dimmer wash around it that shows you the ground at your feet and stops you walking into things. A light that is all hotspot is exhausting to walk behind. A light that is all spill cannot show you anything past thirty yards.
